Buoy Park Art Episode 5 - Mastering Fine Art

Welcome to the Buoy Park Art podcast with Oonagh McAteer and Zara Lyness. Buoy Park Art is our virtual place, named after the vanished public art sculpture park situated beside the Belfast School of Art where we used to meet and chat. We invite you to our new park to share in conversations about art and artists in Northern Ireland and beyond.

On this weeks podcast Zara and Oonagh talk to Nollaig Molloy and Sinéad O'Neill-Nicholl about their work and exhibition at The MAC Belfast.

Nollaig Molloy's work explores materials from specific sites and their relevance in historical, social and industrial situations. She works collaboratively using video, animation, sculptural installation and event based outcomes. Using traditional and craft based techniques, she engages with 'materials-to-hand' placing them within contemporary contexts. Through modes of in-depth research she works with formal and informal archives, environments and communities-of-interest. In 2020 she was awarded the Individual Artist Bursary from Roscommon County Council and in 2018 she received an Emerging Artist Award from Fingal County Council’s public art project ‘Infrastructure’, yet to be realized.

"Sinéad O'Neill-Nicholl is a multi-disciplinary artist using a range of new media to create audio installations and who engages in live art performance to explore contemporary themes of gender, identity, truth and justice. Examining the power structures at play within language and the methods used to silence the voice of the 'other', Sinéad's recent practice involves the creation of spatial audio environments using the agency of sound as a method of resistance.

Working at the intersection of contemporary fine art and technology, Sinead is a current member of Vault Artist Studios having received the 2020 University of Atypical Graduate Award and 2019 Arts Council NI SIAP award."
